REEL Review
Neil Patrick Harries does it once again. It takes a good actor to blend himself into any role, especially when he has to effectively make the audience feel the sense of his character, in this case to be a husband and a soon to be father, while in real life he is actually gay. Neil has always been the actor that surprises his audience. We watch him as how he womanizes in How I Met Your Mother tv series, a blind tutor in Beastly, and now a responsible and loving husband without any stain of gayness. He is genuinely convincing.

It was just the second time I saw Jayma Mays in a movie (first was in Epic Movie). I often see her in some tv series - Heroes and Glee. She marks to me as mysophobic Emma Pillsburry (Glee). In this film she helped Harris to bring out their characters as Winslow couple. And also a kind-hearted woman, and a wife who loves unconditionally. Neil and Jayma actually looks good onscreen. They did not have so much romantic stuff, but they showcased what it has to be husband and wife. If only Neil is not gay and Jayma is not yet married, they better be sweethearts in real life. ♥

And as with the antagonist Gargamel, Hank Azaria was quite funny. He  was supposed to be freakish, powerful wizard but he does not look like a frightening one. He sometimes looks like overreacting, but I think he has to. It just has to be that way to portray the skimpy and bird-brained wizard when looking for the right words (thanks to his cat). He acted just right enough for the audience to smurfingly laugh.

And since when Katy Perry has been a voice actress? Yep, she is Smurfette. Good voicing though.

Raja Gosnell, the director, has always been involved in this film genre - comedy and family. For me this is his best film. The Smurfs is a way up than Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo 2 and Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

The Smurfs is another half-animated and half-live action film. The filming should be carefully set, as the actors will be acting and delivering the lines without seeing those little blue creatures. "When time came to film a scene that would include actors and Smurfs, each Smurf was represented by a different colored dot and the actors had to remember which dot was which Smurf", wiki. Talking to no one seems to be stupid, what difference does it have with dots? It's a tough job for the actors and the animators. I just noticed that whenever there is a scene when a smurf has to be carried, often times it does not look realistic. There is a sort of an animation glitch in there.

The story is just another common and simple kiddie tale. Yet, The Smurfs movie is highly enjoyable by kids and adults.

Blue is not always a sad color. It can be smurfingly fun and happy. This film is smurftacular!

REEL Review
I never knew that Thor is a Marvel superhero. Well, in fact I did not know Thor. I just wanted to watch the film because I saw ♥ Chris Hemsworth ♥ on the trailer, plus Natalie Portman was in it also. I watched the film in 3d.

I had to think twice when I read that Chris was in A Perfect Getaway film. He looks so different in that movie. Thor has made Hemsworth evolved into a god. This film is definitely a big break for him as an actor. I guess he deserves it. He performed so well in the movie. I can't think of any actor who can be Thor besides him. From his body, to acting, and to his godly appeal. He ceded to the viewers what it takes to be a god of thunder, and a soon to be king. It will not be a surprise if a prequel or sequels will be lined up for Hemsworth. Anyway he was prepared early to be a cast for The Avengers in 2012.

I was not able to see the post-credits scene. I went out of the movie house when the credits rolled. But like what they did with Captain America : The First Avenger, they are hinting for a next movie bridging this one. This does not have the The Avengers teaser trailer on post-credits though.

After the Black Swan film, Natalie Portman is back onscreen. Of course her role is not as big as the Swan Queen, but good enough to be the love interest of the god of thunder. The role is so plain and simple, but has captured the scenes efficaciously. She fits well to be an astrophysicist.

Kenneth Branagh (played Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) has directed 14 films to date, though I have not watched the other 13. Just based on Thor, Branagh can produce an amazingly impressive blockbuster hit, carefully and heedfully directed. Plus an astonishing visual effects that makes everything so real.

I like this film more than Iron Man. This one is more Marvel-ously entertaining. Thor definitely hurled everyone to an intensifying and compounding superhero film as he hurls his hammer - a concoction of action, humor, drama and romance.

Thor is a bang for the eyes, and bang for the bucks! All hail the mighty god of thunder!

REEL Review
JK Rowling says that among the 6 film adaptations, Half Blood Prince is her favorite one. In contrary, this one is my least fave. I have high expectations, especially on the battle scene. You can feel the hard battle in the book. In this movie, the battle scenes were cut short. I am not disappointed that much though. It's just that something is missing. I have read that Heyman said that it was removed to avoid repetition with the forthcoming adaptation of the Battle of Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows. Okay, you are the producer.

The death of Dumbledore is really moving. I can feel Harry's grievance on his headmaster's demise. It is like losing a great hero in a film. Michael Gambon is now the epitome of goodness, the man who knows pretty much about everything. The man in sweeping robes with stars and moons patterns will surely be missed. We will see him again at King's cross station for Harry Potter 7 film.

As with the trio's performance, still over-the-top. Radcliffe is still the same Harry that we watch since years ago. He just seems growing too fast, he might look older for the last HP installment. Rupert and Emma do not have the typical romantic spark as an on-screen lovers, but it is fun to watch them. The three are wonderful actors.

Alan Rickman also did well as he himself is the film title, since he is the Half Blood Prince. Tom Felton's performance is also notable. This film is his second best next to the Sorcerer's Stone. To prove that, he won as the Best Villain in MTV Movie Awards. He is in fact the only actor in the film to won a prominent award, the rest were just nominated. Though the film in general won many awards. Best Film (SFX Awards, Gouden Flip Award), Best Fantasy Movie (IGN) and Best Family Film (Digital Spy Movie Award, National Movie Awards) to name a few.

It is David Yates' second HP movie. After the Order of the Phoenix, he still amazingly came up with a mesmerizing material that is stunningly hearty and satisfying. HP5 grossed higher than HP6, though both ranked as no. 2 top grossers for 2007 and 2009 respectively. As for the visual effects, very realistically conjured, making the Harry Potter world tangible on screen.

The style and substance of a Harry Potter film has been once again seen. The movie is a little bot dark yet thrilling and fascinating. It would have been a Goodie for me, if not with the lacking 'action-packed' material that I wanted to see. Well, it is a Harry Potter film. Sectumsempra!

REEL Review
I have read that this film is based on a Korean comic of the same name. I am not fully aware of the comic, so I am seeing this film as an independent material and just a movie alone.

Regardless of whatever the story in comic is, Priest is a combination of supernatural and action-packed film. I do not know why the vampire slayers have to priests or some spiritually inclined group, but it clearly shows that the elite group is highly skilled and has supernatural abilities to kill vampires.

Not much good things to mention about the story, because it is perceivable from the beginning. And the twist about Lucy being Priest's (the lead role) daughter is a common thing. What is not common about that is, he is a priest. And he has a daughter. Yeee.

Cinematography is just fine. The setting of the film is perfect for the plot. It was a mixture of modern and old architecture. The confession room is very modern. Confessing via video conference, that would be cool. The action scenes are quite impossible in real life. Why would I even say that, it is a supernatural film. But the fighting scenes are detailed and well-executed.

Oh, I should not forget to mention Maggie Q. She is really good in action films. Perfect for a female warrior. After her Naked Weapon film, she even more exemplifies in this genre. More movies Maggie!

Supernaturally fabricated, yet realistically acted. Though, it could have been a better screenplay.

REEL Review
When I was watching the first episode, I stopped after about 10 minutes. I dunno, I just got bored. Sometimes I just don't want so much talking. But when some of my friends began talking about Glee, especially the songs they have been singing in each episodes, I felt the need of watching as well. So I started again with episode 1, and found out that it is not that actually boring. Maybe I just don't feel like watching the first time that I did. When they started performing number, oh... this is it! This is getting more entertaining. I love it when they performed Don't Stop Believing.

When watching this series, I always look forward to their performance. And also, each character is getting more interesting. The conflict between Finn, Quinn, Rachel and Puck, the sabotage attempts of Sue through Santana and Britanny, Will's determination to reach regionals despite his wife's melodramatic lie on conceiving a child.

The show also projects some social and moral issues. This results to some critics sounding out negative feedbacks, not with the show as a musical series, but as to what it really wants to acquaint to the viewers. But reality bites. The characters in Glee portray people in the real world. It all depends on how you handle everything and preserve your identity.

My favorite episode is Sectionals (episode 13). After their performance, I just found myself clapping. Good choice of songs, good voices, good performance.

Glee is one hell of a musical ride. Benevolent characters, freehearted sense humor and well-contrived music all in one package equals fun! Very imaginative.

First thing that I noticed - all of the Top Grossers are sequels, except The Smurfs. Mmm, what can I say? Yeah, these sequels are pretty good. Of course, Harry Potter ended with a bang. Transformers still made it without Megan Fox (people want her more though). Johnny Depp is still as good as the first three Pirates film. The first installment of the Twilight Saga finale captured the viewers. Kung Fu Panda 2, The Smurfs and Cars 2 entertained all ages. And oh, Tom Cruise still got it all for Mission Impossible 4. Nothing new for Hangover 2, but still made it to top 10. Fast Five once again got hold of its F&F reputation.

Yes, sequels dominated 2011.

REEL Review
I am really an HP fan, so I have been waiting for this film since HP 6. I know everyone is excited as Harry Potter ends his battle with the Dark Lord. David Yates satisfactorily gave justice to the world of Harry Potter fans. He metamorphosed JK Rowling's book into an elaborative and remarkable display on a lavish scale.

The settings are just the way I imagined them to be when I read the book. There are just some cuts from the book, but I know it can't be helped. Still the whole story was preserved.

Radcliffe looks too fledged for a 17-year old boy. But his acting surmounted the odds. Together with Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, the trio has never failed to satisfy the crowd. These three were perfectly picked for their role. Perfect acting and execution since the first film. They have been under 4 directors (Chris Columbus - 1 and 2, Alfonso Cuaron - 3, Mike Newell - 4 and David Yates - 5, 6, 7A, 7B), but remained the same actors and actress that have duly done their part.

Helena Bonham Carter is still my favorite death eater. I don't know, I love watching her on screen playing the role of Bellatrix. When it's Helena, it's Bellatrix. Never mind the Red Queen (Alice in Wonderland) and Queen Elizabeth (The King's Speech).

I can say that HP movie has matured since The Sorcerer's Stone. There is more than fighting the antagonist by doing some magic. It has been beautifully flicked, putting more emotions into every character. Powered by the striking visual effects, the action part disported heavily, goading intensity to the viewers. If there is one disappointment that I felt, it is the feeling of a broken momentum when the credits rolled. Aw, 7 months to wait. Feels like a thousand years. Having made it this far, Potter fans will not be admonished by the first part's halt, but will expect a truly outstanding bow.

REEL Review
How do i know? I do not know. I did not know. If I did, I am not gonna watch this movie. Same old pattern and story. The love story is very shallow. I did not feel that 'something' between George (Paul Rudd) and Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) within the film. I knew they will end up together, but as to how to, I was not able to grasp.

With Reese Witherspoon and Jack Nicholson, you are going to expect a spectacular film. Owen Wilson showed his usual personality on screen, the cool guy. Big stars, big movies. The leads here are good actually. They fit the roles. But they deserve more than this kind of film. Story wise, failed. James Brooks must have added something. He can make an extraordinary film out of a common love story.

I like Reese and Paul better in Mosters vs. Aliens. This animated film has a better impact. You can feel the characters though voiced only. Because the film itself is a bang. But with How Do You Know, everything is lacking. Thanks to the casting, that just made people watch.

"How Do You Know grossed a total of $48,668,907 worldwide, failing to recoup its $120 million budget." - wikipedia. Box-office bomb huh?

I am giving 2 Reels for this movie, in credit for the 4 lead roles.

REEL Review
I enjoyed watching this movie. It might be the same as the usual chick-flick films, but there is something into this one. I don't know, maybe because it is more centered to family progeny with a twist of romance and comedy which makes it a little less comparable.

Camilla Belle is really a good actress. I've seen her in 10,000 BC (played the role of Evolet) and she's really exceptional. That's why I really wanna watch her in this film. I want to see how she does with comedy. And yeah, she carried the movie. Alexa Vega is just a secondary character, though she has also portrayed her character well.

I find the mixing in of Mexican heritage thingy nice. I like the way they talk, act and even sing and dance. I guess the actors are really of Mexican decent which makes everything so natural.

A romantic comedy yet family oriented film - there's so much to this movie than what just the title says.

Not a bad film, still deserves a passing rate.

REEL Review
Pattinson and Stewart's team up was not lost since the Twilight impression. Their love team still possesses the spark and charm of a human-vampire relationship. Taylor Lautner also has shown his other side. From his untidy image from the first movie, a hunky Jacob Black arose. He has been in fact the soul of this film - everyone talks more about him than Bella and Edward.

But talking about sequels, the succeeding films usually do not surpass the first. But it is unusual that from a really big hit first installment follows a very lousy sequel. Watching Twilight on big screen was really a delight. In fact I'll be willing to watch it over and over again. That made me (and the other Twilight fanatics I'm sure) really excited about New Moon. The success of Twilight makes the viewer to want even more from Bella and Edward, especially the non-readers of the novel like me. But I was really disappointed after watching this film. When the credits started rolling, all I said was "that was it??". The film may have satisfied the hardcore fans of the series, but for viewers like me that have been into the series just because of the Twilight fever, we are most likely to be thwarted by the slow pacing, talks and more talks, and lengthy showing.

It was more of a drama genre. Less actions, less romance. I am not sure if the novel is as boring as the film. Chris Weitz must have thought of something to induce salience and reduce too much melodramas. He must at least have applied his tactics with his The Golden Compass film ~ woosh, less boring. Aside from the wolves in the pack who had been wearing trousers and had shown their bodies throughout the film, especially Jacob, nothing more is really wow-ing.

Better to watch a soap opera marathon. I just wasted my 200 bucks.
